Mumbai, April 21, 2025 – Akshay Kumar’s historical courtroom drama, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, is gaining significant momentum at the Indian box office, capitalizing on positive word-of-mouth and the absence of major releases until May 1. The film, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, recorded a robust 28.57% growth on Saturday, collecting ₹10.08 crore nett, following its Good Friday opening of ₹7.84 crore nett, bringing its two-day total to ₹17.92 crore nett.
Industry analysts report that the film witnessed a surge in occupancies on Sunday, particularly in multiplexes and premium screens across major urban centers like Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, and Pune. The glowing reviews and widespread appreciation for the film’s powerful portrayal of C. Sankaran Nair’s legal battle against the British Raj in the aftermath of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre have fueled its upward trajectory.
“Kesari Chapter 2 is resonating with audiences, especially in metros, where its compelling narrative and stellar performances by Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday are driving footfalls,” posted trade analyst Taran Adarsh. “The occupancies on Sunday are significantly higher, and the positive buzz is expected to translate into strong weekend numbers.”
The film’s strategic release timing, coinciding with the Easter holiday weekend, has given it a clear runway at the box office. With no major releases scheduled until Raid 2 and The Bhootnii hit theaters on May 1, Kesari Chapter 2 is well-positioned to maintain its momentum through the weekdays and potentially cross the ₹50 crore mark in its first week, according to industry estimates.
Produced by Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, Kesari Chapter 2 has been praised for its sensitive handling of historical events and impactful dialogues. The film’s strong advance bookings, which grossed ₹3 crore before its release, and its ability to outperform Sunny Deol’s Jaat in key markets underscore its commercial appeal.
As the film heads into the workweek, its performance on Monday will be crucial to sustaining its box office run. “A drop of less than 10% compared to Friday will signal a healthy hold,” noted analyst Sumit Kadel. With its current trajectory, Kesari Chapter 2 is shaping up to be a significant hit for Akshay Kumar, marking a strong comeback in the historical drama genre.
