Gaurav Banerjee takes over as MD and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India

Gaurav Banerjee has taken over as Managing Director and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India, succeeding NP Singh. After a distinguished 25-year tenure, Singh will transition to the role of non-executive chairman.

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) shared a LinkedIn post congratulating Gaurav Banerjee on his appointment as MD and CEO, stating, “We welcome Gaurav Banerjee as our new MD & CEO, at Sony Pictures Networks India. With his vision to propel SPNI’s legacy forward and set new benchmarks in the industry, SPNI will continue in its endeavour of execution excellence.”

Gaurav Banerjee brings more than two decades of respected expertise in content creation and strategic leadership, which includes roles such as Head of Content for Hindi Entertainment & Disney+ Hotstar and Business Head for Star Bharat. He also managed Hindi and English Movies, Kids & Infotainment, and Regional (East) segments.

In these positions, Gaurav led content curation in multiple languages and drove the production of original series and films. His efforts consistently resonated with diverse audiences, establishing him as a pioneering leader. His vision helped shows like AnupamaGhum Hai Kisi Ke Pyaar Mein, and Imlie achieve top viewership ratings.

Gaurav played a crucial role in creating award-winning streaming originals for Disney+ Hotstar. Notable works include the Emmy-nominated AaryaSpecial OpsThe Freelancer, and The Night Manager.

Gaurav’s media journey began as an assistant producer and anchor at Aaj Tak. He later transitioned to Star News, where he produced and anchored Prime Time News shows. Gaurav holds a master’s degree in filmmaking and TV production from Jamia Millia Islamia University and a bachelor’s degree in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.
