Akshay Kumar Pledges Rs 5 Crore for Punjab Flood Relief, Calls It ‘Sewa’

Mumbai, September 7, 2025 – Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has once again demonstrated his commitment to humanitarian causes by pledging Rs 5 crore to support relief and rehabilitation efforts for the devastating floods in Punjab. Describing his contribution as an act of ‘sewa’ (service), the actor humbly downplayed the gesture, saying, “Who am I to donate to anyone?”

In a heartfelt statement, Akshay expressed solidarity with the flood victims, stating, “I am giving Rs 5 crore for buying relief material for the Punjab flood victims, but I feel blessed when I get an opportunity to extend a helping hand. For me, it’s my sewa, my very small contribution. I pray that the natural calamity that has struck my brothers and sisters in Punjab passes soon.”

A Legacy of Compassion

This is not the first time Akshay Kumar has stepped up during a crisis. Known for his philanthropy, the actor has a long history of supporting disaster relief and national causes. During the Covid-19 pandemic, he donated Rs 25 crore to the PM-CARES Fund and provided PPE kits and sanitisers to Mumbai’s BMC. In 2019, he pledged Rs 5 crore to the families of CRPF jawans killed in the Pulwama attack. He also co-launched the Bharat Ke Veer initiative in 2017 to support families of martyred soldiers and contributed Rs 1 crore each to the Kerala flood relief and Bharat Ke Veer corpus in 2018. His generosity extends back to 2015, when he aided Chennai flood relief efforts.

Bollywood Unites for Punjab

Akshay is not alone in his efforts to support Punjab’s flood-hit communities. Several celebrities have joined hands to provide relief. Sonu Sood has launched a helpline and distributed essentials through his foundation, while Ammy Virk committed to rebuilding 200 severely affected homes. Randeep Hooda has been actively involved on the ground in Gurdaspur, ensuring food and water distribution. Diljit Dosanjh has adopted ten flood-affected villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar, providing food, medical supplies, and rehabilitation support. Other stars, including Karan Aujla, Gurdas Maan, Babbu Mann, Ranjit Bawa, Satinder Sartaaj, and Kapil Sharma, have also contributed through donations and hands-on efforts.

A Beacon of Hope

Akshay Kumar’s latest contribution underscores his deep connection to Punjab and his unwavering commitment to helping those in need. As the state battles one of its worst floods, his act of ‘sewa’ serves as an inspiration for others to come forward and support the ongoing relief efforts.
