Unni Mukundan to Portray PM Narendra Modi in Biopic ‘Maa Vande’

Mumbai, September 17, 2025 – Malayalam cinema star Unni Mukundan is set to take on the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the upcoming biopic Maa Vande, directed by Kranthi Kumar CH. The announcement, made on the occasion of PM Modi’s 75th birthday, has generated significant buzz in the Indian film industry. The film, tagged as “The Anthem of a Mother,” promises to explore Modi’s life journey, from his childhood in Gujarat to his rise as a national leader, with a special focus on his deep bond with his late mother, Heeraben Modi.

Unni Mukundan, who hails from Ahmedabad, shared his personal connection to the project on Instagram, stating, “Growing up in Ahmedabad, Narendra Modi was my Chief Minister during my childhood. Years later, I had the privilege of meeting him in person.” He described the role as both “overwhelming and deeply inspiring,” emphasizing that Maa Vande aims to showcase “the man beyond the statesman” and his relationship with his mother, who played a pivotal role in shaping his character.

A Pan-Indian Cinematic Venture

Maa Vande is being crafted as a pan-Indian film, set for release in multiple Indian languages to reach a diverse audience. The project boasts an impressive lineup of technicians, including cinematographer K K Senthil Kumar, known for his work on Baahubali, composer Ravi Basrur of KGF fame, editor Sreekar Prasad, production designer Sabu Cyril, and action director King Solomon. Produced by Veer Reddy under Silver Cast Creations, the film is poised to be a grand cinematic spectacle.

Not the First Modi Biopic

This is not the first time PM Modi’s life has been brought to the big screen. In 2019, PM Narendra Modi, directed by Omung Kumar and starring Vivek Oberoi, chronicled the Prime Minister’s journey. While that film received mixed reviews, Maa Vande aims to offer a fresh perspective by focusing on Modi’s personal life and emotional connections.

Unni Mukundan’s Rising Star

Unni Mukundan, who recently starred in the action thriller Marco and the comedy Get Set Baby, is no stranger to challenging roles. Although Marco faced criticism for its graphic violence, leading to the cancellation of a planned sequel, Unni’s casting as Modi signals his growing prominence in Indian cinema. With Maa Vande, he is expected to make a significant mark on a national stage.

A Celebration of Legacy

The timing of the announcement, coinciding with PM Modi’s birthday, has added to the excitement surrounding the project. Fans and industry insiders alike are eager to see how Maa Vande portrays the life of one of India’s most prominent leaders. With its stellar cast and crew, the film is shaping up to be a heartfelt tribute to Modi’s legacy and his mother’s influence.
