Legendary Playback Singer Asha Bhosle Passes Away at 92 in Mumbai Hospital

Mumbai, April 12, 2026 – The Indian music industry has lost one of its most iconic voices. Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, affectionately known as the “Queen of Melodies” (Suron ki Mallika), breathed her last at the age of 92 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday.

According to multiple reports, Asha Bhosle was admitted to the hospital on the evening of April 11, 2026, after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was being treated in the Emergency Medical Services unit under close medical supervision. Some initial reports described her condition as critical, while her family attributed the hospitalization to extreme exhaustion and a chest infection.

Her granddaughter, Janai (or Zanai) Bhosle, had earlier shared a statement on X requesting privacy for the family: “My grandmother, Asha Bhosle due to extreme exhaustion and suffering a chest infection has been admitted to hospital and we request you to value our privacy. Treatment is ongoing and hopefully everything will be well and we shall update you positively.”

Tragically, the legendary singer could not recover and passed away on April 12. Her son, Anand Bhosle, is reported to have confirmed the news. Last rites are expected to be held on Monday with full state honours.
