Ananya Birla Launches Birla Studios: Aditya Birla Group Enters Film Production with Ambitious Multi-Language Slate
Mumbai, February 4, 2026 – In a significant move signaling deeper corporate involvement in India’s booming entertainment sector, entrepreneur and Aditya Birla Group scion Ananya Birla has officially launched Birla Studios, a new film production company poised to develop high-concept, prestige-driven commercial cinema.
The announcement marks the Aditya Birla Group’s formal entry into feature film production, building on its existing presence in content creation through Applause Entertainment, known for acclaimed series such as Scam 1992 and Criminal Justice. This venture comes at a time when the Indian film industry is witnessing record box office highs—grossing over Rs 13,415 crore in 2025—yet increasingly dominated by tentpole hits and facing consolidation pressures on mid-budget projects.
Birla Studios aims to curate a diverse, multi-language slate that balances strong commercial potential with cultural relevance and artistic ambition. The studio’s focus includes major tentpole films across Hindi, Gujarati, Malayalam, and other regional languages, alongside international English-language projects. It is genre-agnostic, emphasizing stories that foster emotional connections, deliver lasting impact, and bridge universal themes with cultural specificity to appeal to audiences worldwide.
Ananya Birla, who serves as the founder and chairperson of Svatantra Microfin (India’s second-largest microfinance institution), holds key strategic roles within the Aditya Birla Group—including positions on the apex strategic body (ABMCPL) and boards of Hindalco, Grasim, and Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail—shared her vision for the new venture.
