Mumbai, June 28, 2025 – The Cinema Division of Sanskar Bharati – Konkan Region hosted its monthly program, Cine Talkies, at Atal Smriti Udyan, Borivali, celebrating the legacy of iconic Indian filmmaker Raj Khosla. Held on the last Saturday of every month, Cine Talkies aims to spark meaningful conversations about cinema and its artistic dimensions. This month’s theme, “A Trendsetter Through Thoughts: Remembering Raj Khosla,” paid tribute to the visionary director known for his masterful storytelling.
The event featured keynote speakers Mr. Ambarish Roychoudhury, author of Raj Khosla – The Authorized Biography, and Mr. Raviraj Pranami, senior journalist and CEO of the Music Composers Association of India. The evening was graced by the presence of Mrs. Anita Khosla, daughter of Raj Khosla, adding a personal touch to the tribute.
Mr. Arun Shekhar, Vice President of Sanskar Bharati – Konkan Region, opened the event with an introductory note. The program was skillfully moderated by senior film journalist Harshada Ved Pathak, with poet and lyricist Devmani Pandey hosting the proceedings.
Ambarish Roychoudhury shared insights into his journey of writing Khosla’s biography, initiated by the filmmaker’s daughters in 2021. His research included visits to the National Film Archives and NCPA Library, as well as interviews with cinema icons like Dharmendra, Mumtaz, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosale, and Manoj Kumar. He revealed a lesser-known fact about Khosla’s brief acting stint and emphasized the director’s innovative use of music as a narrative tool, seamlessly weaving songs into the storyline.
Raviraj Pranami described Raj Khosla as the “Mystery Creator of Cinema,” noting that his cinematic techniques are studied in Hollywood film schools. He shared a fascinating anecdote about the song Lag Ja Gale, which Khosla initially rejected but later embraced, resulting in an evergreen classic. Pranami highlighted Khosla’s focus on expressive visuals, particularly the use of eyes in his storytelling.
Mrs. Sunita Bhalla Khosla, Raj Khosla’s daughter, moved the audience with heartfelt memories of her father and a soulful rendition of a song from one of his films. The interactive session saw enthusiastic participation from the audience, who engaged with insightful questions.
The event’s success was driven by the dedicated organizing committee, including Nand Kishore Pant, Jagdish Nishad, Vandita Chakradev, Sajal Deep Khare, Chitransh Srivastava, and Ajit Goud. Mr. Arun Shekhar concluded the evening with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries and attendees.
This memorable edition of Cine Talkies not only celebrated Raj Khosla’s cinematic brilliance but also underscored the importance of cultural and artistic dialogue in preserving the legacy of Indian cinema.
