Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association Seeks Urgent Intervention Over Film Ban in West Bengal

Mumbai, 9th September 2025 – The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging his immediate intervention regarding the obstruction of the film The Bengal Files, produced by IAMBUDDHA Entertainment & Media LLP. The film, which has been duly certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for public exhibition, is facing an unexpected ban in the State of West Bengal.
Despite possessing all legal rights for nationwide exhibition, the film has not been allowed to release in West Bengal. IMPPA highlights that this ban has denied the public its right to view the film and has subjected producers and distributors to intimidation and obstacles. The association asserts that the State Government’s failure to ensure a safe and fair environment is hindering the film’s release.
IMPPA warns that the heavy investment made in the film’s production and its public exhibition could result in substantial financial losses for producers, distributors, and the film industry at large. The association respectfully requests the Prime Minister’s intervention to ensure the rule of law is upheld and that the film is allowed to release without obstruction.
The letter emphasizes the vital role of the State in protecting certified works of art and ensuring their free and secure exhibition. IMPPA trusts that the necessary steps will be taken at the earliest to protect the rights of filmmakers and uphold the integrity of the certification process.
Signed by Abhay Sinha, President of IMPPA, the letter reflects the industry’s concern over the ongoing issue and its impact on creative freedom.
