Approach Bollywood had the privilege of sitting down with Anurag Sharma, the director of the recently released web series “Two Great Masters on MX Player.” Produced by Juni Films & Approach Entertainment in association with Go Spiritual India, the series offers a profound exploration of spiritual teachings in the modern era. The series is based on the Book Two Great Masters written by Amrit Gupta. Anurag Sharma shares his insights into the creation of the series and its impact on viewers.

Approach Bollywood: What aspects of the web series do you believe will resonate most strongly with audiences, and why?

Anurag Sharma: Every topic we covered in the series carries a strong message, but considering the majority of our audience is youth, I believe the theme of deciding to get married will garner a significant response. It’s a relatable and pivotal moment in many people’s lives, making it likely to be well-received.

Approach Bollywood: ‘Two Great Masters’ is not a typical biographical retelling but a deeper exploration of philosophical and spiritual ideologies. How did you approach balancing storytelling with conveying the deeper spiritual messages?

Anurag Sharma: We approached this balance by incorporating background voice-overs and utilizing an anchor to make the themes and situations clearer to the audience. This helped maintain the flow of content while ensuring the deeper messages were effectively conveyed.

Approach Bollywood: How did you collaborate with the cast and crew to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the spiritual themes portrayed in the series?

Anurag Sharma: We held multiple meetings with everyone involved before the start of filming. Additionally, we provided literature on the spiritual themes to the cast and crew a month prior to shooting, ensuring everyone had a deep understanding of the subject matter.

Approach Bollywood: Were there any particular scenes or moments during filming that stood out to you as especially powerful or memorable? If so, can you share why they were significant?

Anurag Sharma: The 8th and 9th episodes of the series are particularly powerful. The ambiance of these scenes is strikingly different, yet they deliver unexpected messages that provoke new thoughts and perspectives for the viewers.

Approach Bollywood: What do you hope viewers will take away from watching ‘Two Great Masters,’ both in terms of entertainment value and spiritual enlightenment?

Anurag Sharma: While we cannot dictate how viewers will interpret the series, our aim is to guide them into a calmer state of mind. Some may find entertainment in certain scenes, while others may derive spiritual enlightenment from the messages conveyed. Ultimately, we hope the series leaves a positive impact on all who watch it.

Approach Bollywood: How do you see the role of digital platforms like MX Player in making spiritual content more accessible to a wider audience?

Anurag Sharma: Our main goal was to reach as many people as possible with our series, and MX Player provided an excellent platform for this. Being one of the largest subscription-based platforms in India, it ensures wide accessibility to our content. Moreover, as a free platform, it allows even those with limited resources to access spiritual content, thus democratizing its reach.

Approach Bollywood: Finally, do you have any future projects or aspirations in the realm of spiritual storytelling or filmmaking that you can share with us?

Anurag Sharma: Certainly! I’ve already announced my next film, “RAM LALLA,” and I’m currently working on the screenplay for another film based on OSHO. I remain dedicated to exploring and sharing spiritual themes through storytelling and filmmaking in the future.
