Maharashtra Government Waives Charges for Film Shoots on Public Land, Boosting Bollywood Prospects

In a significant move aimed at bolstering Bollywood, the Maharashtra government has announced a groundbreaking initiative allowing filmmakers to shoot films, documentaries, and advertisements on government land free of cost. The state’s cultural affairs department has issued a government resolution (GR), waiving charges for shoots at all state-owned public places, with only a few exceptions.

Under this new scheme, producers will benefit from a streamlined single-window clearance system. However, they will be required to pay a security deposit of Rs 40,000 for advertisements, Rs 1 lakh for TV serials, and Rs 2.5 lakh for films, as outlined in the GR. Notably, the waiver does not extend to Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari in Mumbai, the film city in Kolhapur, or the upcoming film city project in the state.

This move by the government is seen as a positive step towards fostering a conducive environment for film, documentary, and ad production in the state.
