The Film Federation of India (FFI) and People for Animals (PFA) have jointly launched Cine Kind, a groundbreaking initiative to promote kindness, humanity, and empathy toward animals in Indian cinema. The inaugural Cine Kind Awards Night will be held on December 20, 2025, in Kolkata.
Menaka Gandhi: “Cinema Will Spread the Message of Compassion”
PFA Chairperson Mrs. Menaka Sanjay Gandhi said, “Starting next year, these awards will be presented annually on October 4—World Animal Day. Society doesn’t yet fully recognize animal rights on par with human rights, but initiatives like Cine Kind will use the power of cinema to inspire empathy and kindness in people’s hearts.”
FFI President: “This Is Not Just an Award—It’s a Movement”
FFI President Mr. Firdousul Hasan expressed excitement, stating, “Cinema has a unique ability to influence and shape perspectives. With Cine Kind, we want compassion toward animals to be celebrated as much as action or drama. This is more than an award—it’s a movement that will transform the way stories are told. All our officials are thrilled with the concept.”
Sandeep Marwah: Encouraging Students to Make Short Films on Animal Love
Cine Kind Awards Committee Chairman Mr. Sandeep Marwah revealed that AAFT has encouraged students to create short films promoting love and kindness toward animals. He added, “These awards will honor filmmakers, actors, and professionals who have highlighted the human-animal bond, advocated for animal welfare, and inspired audiences to treat all living beings with compassion.”
10 Categories, 10 Winners
The awards will feature 10 categories, honoring 10 filmmakers, actors, and film professionals who have demonstrated deep sensitivity toward animals and contributed to their welfare over the years.
Documentary & Trophy Unveiled
During the launch, a 4.5-minute documentary directed by Sushil Bharti under the Marwah Studios banner was unveiled, showcasing the vision behind Cine Kind. Mrs. Gandhi, Mr. Hasan, and Mr. Marwah also revealed a special trophy designed by renowned artist Paresh Maity, symbolizing empathy, respect, and the human-animal bond.
